Stand up for Tibet: Tibet Lobby Week 2024

The Tibet Lobby is held every year by Tibet support groups in the UK. It is a key opportunity for supporters to stand up for Tibet and engage with their MPs.

The aim is to send a strong message to the government urging them to take substantive action on the issue of Tibet.

This year, the Tibet Lobby will take place across the week of 4 March. We will be encouraging supporters to raise two key issues:

How to take part

There are two ways to take part in Tibet Lobby Week 2024:

  1. Meet your MP in Westminster or in your local constituency
  2. Write to your MP

Meeting your MP

If you want to communicate an important issue, nothing beats a face to face meeting with your MP, where you can provide them with key facts and push them to take action.

Some of our supporters have been meeting their MP for years to discuss Tibet. Others might be planning to do it for the first time. It may sound daunting with our five-step plan, you can prepare for a successful first meeting or give yourself a refresher on what to do.

MPs are generally in London between Tuesday and Thursday and in their local constituencies on Mondays and Fridays. Don’t forget to note down information in our fact sheets on colonial boarding schools and freedom of religion before you go, and remember to let us know how it went at [email protected].

Writing to your MP

If you are unable to meet your MP you can still participate by writing to them. Whatever your needs, we have you covered:

You can write a letter to your MP, outlining your concerns. You can use our two asks and the background information to write a letter in your own words about Tibet. MPs are more likely to pay attention to a letter written in your own words.

If you are short on time, our pre-written letter is a handy solution. You just need to edit, print it and post it, or send it by email. You can find your MP’s contact details here.

Please let us know if you write to or email your MP so we can keep track of which MPs have been contacted by supporters. And do send us a copy of any response you receive from them.

We are Free Tibet, and we stand with Tibetans around the world. For their homeland, for their future and against China’s brutal occupation.
