The first pictures of two teenagers who set themselves on fire in Tibet in October have emerged.
Choepel (right), who was 19 and Khayang, who was 18, self-immolated on 7 October near the main street in Ngaba Town. Both former Kirti Monastery monks died within days.
Rejection of occupation
It is reported that Choepel died on 8 October while Khayang died three days later. They were both former monks and hailed from Thawa Kongma village in Ngaba County. They were the sixth and seventh Tibetans to set themselves on fire this year. To date, 12 Tibetans have taken this step in protest at the continuing Chinese occupation and human rights abuses in Tibet. Seven have died. See the full list of self-immolations
