Despite heavy penalties for Tibetan resistance, a Tibetan carries out a brave solo protest
The footage below shows a young Tibetan walking down a street in Manikengo Township, Kardze, in the Tibet Autonomous Prefecture. Whilst scattering paper prayer flags along the way, the protester is heard shouting "long live His Holiness the Dalai Lama" Last year, Chinese forces opened fire on Tibetans praying to mark the Dalai Lama's birthday.
Tibetans show support
Echoes of support came from local Tibetans standing by on the street and the person recording the protest. Shouts of “Pholaso” meaning “you will be protected by your protector” are heard and another person can be heard saying "what a brave young boy". This latest protest took place on 8 April 2014 around 3.00pm. Chinese police arrived at the scene and the Tibetan man has been detained. No further details are available.
