Raising money is a fun and rewarding way to contribute to the Free Tibet Campaign. The money you raise will enable us to move further towards our vision of a free Tibet.
You may also be interested in fundraising for our research partner, Tibet Watch. Tibet Watch provide us with the vital information we need to run our campaigns and are based with us in our UK office. Furthermore, Tibet Watch are a registered charity, which you may find very helpful when setting up any online frundraising pages.
We have a variety of ideas for fundraising events. Why not host your own Tea for Tibet? This is an initiative we launched in November 2016, raising money by putting the kettle on and getting your friends over for tea and cake! Other ideas are given below but if you have your own, or would just like to discuss any further questions, why not get in touch with our Fundraiser:
Ideas for fundraising
Planning your fundraiser
1) Choose something fun to do
If it’s the first time you are organising a fundraiser, keep it simple. Think of a fun idea and ask all of your friends to get involved. Maybe hold a bake sale at work or join a fun run? If you’re a pro at putting on events, you could be more adventurous. Our Free Tibet Fundraiser will be happy to talk through some ideas and give you advice and support.
2) Choose a date, time and set a fundraising goal
Set a target of how much you want to raise – it will give you an incentive to really strive to reach it, and will help you decide on other aspects of your fundraiser that you may need to do in order to to reach your goal. If you are unsure of what a realistic target is, our fundraising team can help you decide.
3) Decide on the venue/location if you are organising an event
Before picking your venue, make sure you have considered all the important questions. Will it appeal to my audience? Is it accessible? What costs will I incur? Is it available for the particular date(s)?
4) Do you need any extra materials?
We can provide with extra information, support & materials. Would you like educational flyers to hand out? A Free Tibet t-shirt to wear? We will send you a free Fundraising Pack with lots of handy bits and pieces.
5) Start publicising
It is important that people know about the event, otherwise all the hard work you have put into organising will go to waste. If you’re inviting friends, use email and social media. If you’re trying to reach more people, you can put up posters, leave flyers in places (doctors surgeries, libraries etc.). Don’t forget to give us all the details so we can help with promotion!
6) Get help from friends and family
Don’t go it alone! Think about your networks – how can people help? Where do they work? What connections do they have in the community? What talents do they have? Invite your friends, local groups & businesses to get involved. There are hundreds of enthusiastic people out there who love to help.
7) Think about safety
Carrying a first aid kit, checking equipment and informing people of fire exits are important if you’re hiring a venue. There are many safety factors involved depending on the type of fundraiser you are running. These can be discussed with our Free Tibet Fundraiser.
8) Document your fundraiser
Keep a track on how your event is going. Take lots of photos for us to share on our website, on social media, and in our magazine.
9) Stay in touch with us along the way
Let us help you! We’re here with you the whole way if you need to have a chat about anything at all. We can advise you on legal issues, introduce you to other supporters, send you information, help with promotion and much more.
