Identity and current condition unknown

On 29 March 2014 around 3:00 (local time) a Tibetan nun set herself alight in Kardze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, eastern Tibet.

The self-immolation took place near Bhachoede monastery. People circumambulating the monastery extinguished the fire and rushed the nun to a hospital in Bathang. Soon afterwards, Chinese police came to the hospital and prevented Tibetans entering.

Communication lines have been cut in Bathang and no other details, including the nun’s name and her current condition, are available at present.

The self-immolation is the third this March, following two separate incidents on 16 March. Lobsang Palden (2) and Jigme Tenzin (3) both died (4).

Further details will be provided as they become available.
