Protester was cousin of a man who self-immolated at the same location last year

A 27-year-old man died today after setting himself on fire protesting against China’s occupation of Tibet.

Tsesung Kyab set fire to himself at 1:30pm local time in front of Shetsang Monastery, Shetsang township in Luchu county. He died at the scene.

Today is the last day of the Tibetan Molam festival, and many local people were congregating at the monastery when the protest took place.

Chinese security forces attempted to put out the flames and remove Tsesung Kyab’s body, but local people prevented them from doing so.The body has been taken to his home village of Chokhor.

It is believed that Tsesung Kyab is a cousin of Pema Dorjee, who set himself on fire and died at the same location on 8 December last year.
