Supporter calls heeded as UK premier meets Dalai Lama

15th May 2012

Meeting took place in London yesterday

Free Tibet is encouraged that UK Prime Minister David Cameron met with His Holiness the Dalai Lama in London yesterday.

It is reported that both Mr Cameron and his deputy Nick Clegg expressed concern for the situation in Tibet.

Tibetan human rights

We hope that spending time in the presence of an inspirational figure will convince Mr Cameron of the need to speak up for Tibet at this time of the Tibetan Spring.

We urge the Prime Minister to give voice to his worries and make a statement about human rights abuses in Tibet, as he has for other countries.

Tibet representatives

Free Tibet supporters all over the UK have been urging their government - via postcard, letter, email and lobbying - to do something about Tibet.

Yesterday’s meeting with the Dalai Lama is an important development in this regard.

Meeting the political representatives of Tibet, in an official capacity, is the logical next step.

Other world leaders should now follow this lead, meet the Dalai Lama or representatives of the Tibetan government-in-exile and break their silence on Tibet.
