  • Campaigns Intern/Volunteer

  • We have an opening for a part-time campaigns intern, based in our London office. This is a great opportunity to get hands on experience of campaign, media and online campaigning in a small team. We aim to integrate volunteers into our work and give them tasks and responsibilities suitable for their skills.

    Overview: The volunteer will support the campaigns and media team in their activities.

    Main tasks likely to include:

    • Monitoring media coverage, maintaining media contact database and identifying media targets
    • Performing online research
    • Drafting campaign documents for public and private use (eg letters, briefings)
    • Participating in brainstorming and campaign planning
    • Assisting the digital officer in online campaign-related activity and analysis
    • Helping to organise and run events
    • Administrative tasks
    • Other tasks, as requested

    The ideal candidate will have:

    • Initiative and creativity
    • A professional approach to their work and role as a term member
    • Strong communication skills
    • Strong command of written English and ability to tailor writing for different audiences/stakeholders
    • Good research skills

    It would be great if you also had one or some of the following:

    • Knowledge of Tibet and/or China
    • Knowledge or experience of campaigning
    • Professional writing and/or research experience
    • Qualification in human rights, international affairs, journalism or public relations
    • Knowledge of online and social media communications

    Responsible to: Campaigns and Media Manager
    Location: Old Street, N1, London
    Stipend: £8.50 per day
    Duration: 8 weeks, initially
    Hours: flexible but 16 hours per week ideal, with potential to increase if appropriate

  • Database Volunteer

  • We have an opening for a part-time Database Volunteer, based in our London office. This is a great opportunity to gain experience of working with a database, in a small fundraising team. The role will also provide a valuable insight into the running of a small not-for-profit organisation.
    The Database Volunteer will form an essential part of the fundraising team, assisting in the input and selection of data from our supporter database and other related duties.

    Main tasks to include:

    • Database: Processing new donations, memberships and change of details.
    • Supporter Services: Preparing correspondence to be sent to members and supporters regarding Direct Debits, memberships, donations, as well as any other relevant mail.
    • Post – opening and processing the incoming post, and preparing and franking the outgoing post.
    • General administrative support and filing: the database volunteer may be required to perform general administrative tasks relevant to the smooth running of the office.

    The ideal candidate will have:

    • Initiative and flexibility
    • A professional approach to their work and role as a term member
    • Ability to work independently
    • Fluency in written and spoken English
    • Attention to detail
    • Competent use of Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel
    • Previous database experience is desirable but not essential.

    Responsible to: Fundraising Officer
    Location: Old Street, N1, London
    Stipend: £8.50 per day
    Duration: Minimum of 10 weeks
    Hours: Three days a week (11am-5.30pm)
    Start date: August 2014

  • Merchandise Volunteer

  • Free Tibet is looking for a volunteer to help oversee our in-house merchandise operation over the Christmas period.

    The Free Tibet shop is a fundraising initiative that brings in vital funds for our campaign work. This is a great opportunity to gain experience of working within in a small fundraising team and will provide a valuable insight into the running of a small not-for-profit organisation.

    We are looking for someone who is available over the Christmas period (from September to December) and possibly into the New Year.

    Main tasks to include:

    • Downloading new orders and maintaining financial records of all online purchases
    • Dispatching orders in a timely fashion (including packaging and posting items)
    • Responding to customer queries
    • Updating the online shop
    • Monitoring stock levels
    • General maintenance; keeping items in an orderly fashion

    Other duties may include:

    • Researching new advertising opportunities
    • Photographing stock
    • Assisting with the general admin of the fundraising team

    The ideal candidate will have:

    • Initiative, flexibility and a professional approach
    • Fluency in written and spoken English
    • Attention to detail
    • Competent use of Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel
    • Good time keeping
    • Methodical work style
    • Customer Service
